Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

Earl W. Hoppes, age 72, of Boswell Rt. 1, a retired farmer and life resident of Warren County, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Community Hospital in Williamsport. He had been ill three years. Mr. Hoppes was born April 27, 1894, in Warren County, the son of Alonzo and Cora Mullen Hoppes. He was married Jan. 18, 1940, at Attica, to Mary Bannon Starkey, who survives. He was a member of the Locust Grove Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 143, Masonic Lodge 486, and Order of Eastern Star 242. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: three stepchildren, James Starkey of Williamsport, Charles Starkey of West Lebanon and Mrs. Kenneth Cripe of Boswell; one sister, Mrs. William Kerlin of Williamsport; one brother, Clarence of Williamsport; five step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Crowmer & Siddens Funeral Home in Williamsport. The Rev. Fred Dean officiated and burial was in the West Lebanon Cemetery.  --typed by Walt W
